Meet the RefracTech Team

Wade Taber

Mr. Taber is the Founding Director of RefracTech.  His family owned a refractory installation company, Quad City Refractories (Coal Valley, IL), and employed him as a mason's apprentice when he was sixteen years old.  He worked with QCR as a bricklayer and attended the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), graduating in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic Engineering, specializing in Refractory materials.

Wade Taber has been employed by other refractory installation groups and joined Saint-Gobain Ceramics (Worcester, MA) in 1998 as a Senior Application Engineer for the Energy Systems / Gasification team.  He provided technical expertise and refractory designs, while supporting global material sales for the company.  In 2007, Mr. Taber joined General Electric's gasification team (Houston, TX), where he became the Senior Engineering Manager for hardware components (including refractories, feed injectors, pressure vessels, syngas coolers and quench systems) and new products in support of the former Texaco-developed gasification process.  He served as the interim General Manager of Engineering for the global business and left GE in 2016.

Mr. Taber has worked with a variety of syngas technologies, most recently employed as Synthesis Energy Systems' Vice President of Engineering for their fluidized bed gasification technology.  He has worked in the refractories field since 1990, and in syngas-related technologies since 1997.  He has engineered refractory designs for dozens of syngas units,  performed nearly one hundred unit inspections, and is the lead inventor on several patents.  With over twenty years of expertise, he is proud to offer refractory engineering services to the industry through RefracTech.  Visit his LinkedIn profile for more information.
